Recent research shows that both the type of fat called brown fat may be used as one solution to combating obesity in the future.
According to the latest research results, brown fat is to work more actively on slim-bodied children. In children with a body mass index (Body Mass Index / BMI), high fat content of chocolate is relatively less.
Brown fat is one type of fatty tissue that can burn calories to generate heat. Safe way to increase the activity of these fats may be one way to combat obesity. Increasing the amount of brown fat in children may be an effective approach to combat rising obesity and diabetes in children.
Initially, brown fat is known only found in infants and children. However, other studies conducted by the same researchers demonstrated that brown fat is also metabolically active in adults.
Brown fat was found between 3 and 7.5 percent in adults, where the higher levels found in women. Brown fat will increase at puberty and thereafter will decline.
Recent studies involving 172 children aged between 5 and 21 years. They used positron emission tomography (PET) scans to measure the amount and activity of fat in children.
The results, found brown fat was detected as much as 44 percent exist in children with nearly the same amount for both girls and boys. Children aged 13-15 years have brown fat percentage and the highest activity.
But in addition there is an inverse relationship between BMI and the activity of brown fat, which means that children with more body lean (not fat) brown fat activity is much higher. For adults, brown fat are more active in cold weather, but in children, the outdoor temperature has no effect on brown fat activity.
Energy and Obesity
The researchers said that brown fat plays an important role in the metabolism of children, energy, and weight management.
The purpose of this study was to discover how to enhance the activity of brown fat without using drugs, for example by adjusting the temperature of the room in the house becomes cooler for obese children. In addition, certain foods may play a role in increasing levels of brown fat, researchers say.
It is not yet known whether there is a relationship between a child and a slender body fat content tend to have more brown. It is still in question. But we know that brown fat is an important component to the child and also in the metabolism of adults.
